A Great War Scots Guards Pair awarded to Private Cecil Hector Urquhart who was Gassed on the 23rd of August 1918, comprising 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals, (16297 C. H. Urquhart. S. Gds.), contemporarily mounted for wear, very fine. (2).
Cecil Hector Urquhart attested for the Scots Guards on the 20th of October 1916; he stated he was 19 years and 10 months old, a Chauffeur’s Assistant from Lymington in Hampshire. He was posted to the 1st Battalion on his arrival in France on the 29th of March 1918. His papers state: ‘Gassed 23rd of August 1918’. He was admitted to 55 General Hospital on the 25th of August 1918 in Boulogne and after a month was sent to a convalescent camp on the 25th of September 1918. He returned Home on the 26th of January 1919, and it would appear was discharged on the same day. Remarkably, Cecil re‑joined the Scots Guards the following day, 27th of January 1919, serving until the 23rd of March 1927.
The 1939 Register shows Cecil living in Biggleswade, working as an Air Ministry Warder. A copy photograph of Cecil in Air Ministry Warder Uniform wearing his Medal Ribbons is included. Cecil died on the 2nd of October 1972.
