A Salonika Theatre Casualty, 1914-15 Star, awarded to Gunner Henry George Norris, 114 Brigade Royal Field Artillery, who was struck down by the silent killer Malaria in 1917 leaving him 20% Disabled, comprising 1914-15 Star, (62199 Gnr: H.G. Norris. R.F.A.), very fine (1).
Henry George Norris, a native of Peckham, London, enlisted into the Royal Field Artillery on the 11th of January 1915; he served Home, 15th of January 1915 to the 17th of September 1915 then France from the 18th of September 1915 to the 6th of January 1916, serving with 114 Brigade R.F.A. He then served Mediterranean and Salonika from the 7th of January 1916 to the 5th of March 1918, contracting Malaria in March 1917 whilst on Active Service. He is noted as On‑Board‑Ship 6th of March 1918 to the 20th of March 1918, returning Home on the 21st of March 1918. He was Absent Without Leave 16th of September 1918 from 11.55pm to 3.30pm but was not punished. He was then re‑posted to France on the 3rd of October 1918 with HQ 107 Brigade RFA, then posted again on the 11th of December 1918 to UK. He was discharged on the 29th of April 1919 to the care of the Tropical Diseases Hospital with a 20% Disability due to Malaria.
