The Military General Service Medal and Rare 88th Regiment Peninsular War Regimental Medal awarded to Quarter Master Serjeant Robert Will, 88th Foot, comprising 88th Regimental Medal with Peninsula Suspension to the Reverse 88, Orthes, Badajoz, Vittoria, Salamanca Fuentes D’Onor, Toulouse, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, (Robert Will Qr Mr Serjeant), Military General Service Medal, 1793-1814, Nine Clasps, Fuentes D’Onor, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, Toulouse, (R. Will, Qr, Mr. Serjt. 88th Foot.), Mounted together on Bar, Regimental Medal on Frayed ribbon, severe edge bruising to left side of MGS, contact marks, otherwise toned about fine (2)
Robert Will was born c. 1791 at Edzell, Forfarshire, he enlisted in the 88th Foot on the 8th of May 1807 aged 16 years: he was discharged after 23 years’ service in 1833 at his own request and was granted a pension of 2/- per day. He served a year in Gibraltar, five years in the Peninsula, one year in North America and one and a half years in France and seven years in the Ionian Islands. After leaving the Colours he was Superintendent of Police and a prominent Freemason
