The Salonika DCM, Serbian Gold Obilich, Mentioned in Despatches Group of 5 awarded to Serjeant/Warrant Officer 2nd Class, W. Davies 12th (Service) Battalion The Cheshire Regiment who was wounded by a Gun Shot Wound Left Thigh on the 29th of August 1917 and suffered from re-occurring bouts of Malaria, comprising Distinguished Conduct Medal, GVR, (13583 C.S. Mjr. W. Davies. 12/S.-Bn: Ches: R.), 1914/15 Star, (13583 Sjt. W. Davies. Ches: R.), 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals with Mentioned in Despatches Emblem, (13583 W.O.Cl.2 W. Davies. Ches. R.), Obilich Medal, Gold, unnamed as issued, Obilich Medal only feint traces of Gold remaining, otherwise toned very fine (5)

For marked devotion to duty in the field and conspicuous gallantry on all occasions. His example and ability has materially assisted in maintaining it at the highest state of efficiency. At all times, when under very heavy fire, his cool and cheerful demeanour and complete disregard for danger have been an inspiring example to all.

13583 Company Serjeant-Major William Davies, 12th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment (Tarporley, Cheshire)
William Davies joined the Cheshire Regiment on the 4th of August 1914 at Chorley. He served in France from the 6th of September 1915 until the 20th of October 1915 then moving to Salonika where he arrived on the 6th of November 1915, he served in Salonika until the 9th of January 1919. His papers record a Gun Shot Wound Left Thigh on the 29th of August 1917 and that he contracted Malaria in May 1918 which gave him a 20% disability on Demobilisation on the 15th of March 1919.
