Description
The Scinde Medal awarded to Captain, later Major-General Nathan L. (Smith) Gardiner, who was Present at the Destruction of the Fort at Imamgarh and the Battles of Meeanee and Hyderabad comprising Scinde Medal 1843 Reverse Meeanee, Hyderabad 1843, (Capt. N. l. Gardiner 22nd Regt.), fitted with replacement silver clip and silver straight bar suspension lightly toned very fine (1)
Sold with Copy Officers Promotion and Purchase Papers, The Papers show as Lieutenant he Was N.L. Gardiner, by Major he has changed to Nathan Smith Gardiner. Born in December 1809 a native of Mallow County Cork, he was Made Ensign in the 22nd Regiment on the 23rd of June 1825 aged 16, He was made Lieutenant, Without Purchase 18th of July 1834, Captain By Purchase 26th January 1841, Exchanged with the 44th Regiment 24th of July 1843. His Probate states that he was Major-General Nathan Smith Gardiner of the United Service Club pall Mall and of 14 Regent Street Westminster who died on the 7th of September 1875 proved at the Principal Registry by James Gardiner of Mallow in the County of Cork in Ireland, Esquire the brother.
