Description
1861 (January 22nd) large part entire, London to Amsterdam, franked at 1s10d , artist and son of Henry Corbould, who's sketch of the Wyon head from the London City Medal was used for the 'Penny Black'. Edward Henry similarly followed his father's footsteps and produced the ''Britannia'' design used for Mauritius, Barbados and Trinidad adhesives. The covers both feature illustrations resembling Queen Victoria in the place of a stamp; with one being a crude representation with his initials at foot, (with 1d red adhesive at foot) the other a more refined sketch of the Queen and endorsed 'Local' and unfranked. Edward Henry often adorned his private letters in such a way, in an attempt to avoid paying postage due to his supposed privileged status, very fine and scarce, important items.
