Description
1867 Mourning hand-illustrated letter dated 14th January 1867 sent by Edward Henry Courbold, artist and son of Henry Corbould, whose sketch of the Wyon head from the London City Medal was used for the 'Penny Black'. Addressed to Mrs Valentine in answer to an invitation to stay at her house, with a small pen and ink sketch of Edward H. Corbould enjoying the warm inside the fireplace, so the smell of tobacco smoke does not offend! Most attractive and interesting item.
Footnote
Edward Henry Corbould similarly followed his father's footsteps and produced the ''Britannia'' design used for Mauritius, Barbados and Trinidad adhesives.
