Description
1838 (24th July) letter signed by Rowland Hill addressed to Swynfen Jervis MP (the eccentric Liberal MP for Bridport and supporter of free trade for grain) requesting his attendance in the House (of Commons) for the Post Office Bill vote. Hill's letter appears to have worked as Jervis did vote in favour of the Bill, thought it was divided the ‘Ayes’ had it and the Bill was passed with votes in favour 81 to noes at 56. Some minor stain and archival reinforcement, still a fascinating and important letter.
