The early classic issues are very well represented, with a fine range of Bull’s Eyes including complete sets and multiples, such as the clear impression set (lot 2076) and the impressive 90r horizontal pair (lot 2078). These are complemented by an excellent showing of Slanting Figures, as well as Upright and Vertical Numerals. The section is further enhanced by a notable selection of Zeppelin and early airmail material, including rare airmail covers and destination mail (lots 2140–2152), and an appealing range of proofs, essays and specialised accumulations. British Post Offices: 1855 (Aug 11) long entire from Santa Theresa to Buenos Ayres bearing fine black Crowned Circle ‘PAID/ AT/ RIO DE JANEIRO’, endorsed at top “per Camilla Packet” and dated for travel on “12th August”, good strike of double arc date stamp on reverse; light vertical filing crease just affecting Paid handstamp.
