1883-99 ½a deep blue green, horizontal pair, variety DOUBLE OVERPRINT, cancelled with "POONAMALEE" cds dated "20 JA 97". One impression of the overprint is correctly positioned, the other impression misplaced upwards 6mm and 6½mm to the right, so divides both horizontally and vertically, leaving each stamp with two extra partial 'On' (top right and bottom right) second 'H' (Overlapping first 'On'), Second 'S' (Upper left) and Second 'M' (overlapping first 'S') A spectacular and desirable multiple of this extremely rare error, the first we have ever handled.
