1840 1d Black Pl.1a. Very fine used large four margin example neatly tied to small clean cover by a red MC with a matching Liverpool datestamp on reverse for the first day of issue MY.6.1840. Sent from Liverpool to Manchester with addressee's surname redacted for privacy. Wonderful quality and a great rarity as such which opens out well for display, accompanied by a 1956 BPA certificate. Listed and pictured PG44-45 ‘May Dates’ by Mike Jackson. SG2, AS2ta Cat £75,000.
