<p>1840 1d "Rainbow" Small trial sheet of Three Impressions. A magnificent example of this great rarity printed in mauve-pink on watermarked "Small Crown" thin yellowish-white wove paper, endorsed “Chinese” in pencil on reverse and in ink “No.5 Ch'e” which was a particular mixture of ink. A stunning piece of the highest rarity, very few sheets were ever printed as they very quickly realised they were too small for the required purpose. Of the few that have survived only two or three remain in this premium condition and are available to collectors. Spec. DP19a. Ex. Colonal Bates, Major Allen & Rowse. Cat £110,000.</p>
