A Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899-1902, 2nd type, ghost dates, 5 clasps, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Laing’s Nek awarded to Corporal A. Wade 2nd Battalion Dorset Regiment, (2660, Corpl. A. Wade. 2/Dorset. Rgt.), engraved naming, lightly toned, very fine (1).
Alfred Wade was a native of Blandford, Dorset, an 18-year-old labourer when he enlisted into the Dorsetshire Regiment on the 30th of April 1888. He served Home 30th of April 1888 to the 13th of September 1891, Egypt 14th of September 1891 to the 26th of September 1903, India 27th of September 1893 to the 16th of February 1896, Home 17th of February 1896 transferred to the Reserve 22nd of February 1896, recalled to the Colours 11th of November 1899, Home until the 23rd of November 1899, South Africa 24th of November 1899 to the 9th of April 1901, Home 10th of April 1901 to his Discharge, Time Expired, on the 29th of April 1901 after serving sixteen years. He was promoted to Corporal on the 6th of October 1894. He was noted as Honest, Sober and Trustworthy and had been employed as a Policeman for three years of his service; on release, he wished to be a Car Man.
