Description
A Boer War Pair awarded to Private William Milner, 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Light Infantry comprising Queen’s South Africa Medal, 2nd type, ghost dates, 5 clasps, Belmont, Modder River, Relief of Kimberley, Paarderberg, Johannesburg, (4610 Pte W. Milner, 2: Yorks: Lt Inft), King’s South Africa Medal, two clasps, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902, (4610 Pte W. Milner. York: L.I.), both impressed naming, very fine (2)
William Milner and engineer aged 18 years and 3 months a native of Hillsboro joined the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry on the 28th of March 1894 stating that he was serving with the 5th Battalion K.O.Y.L.I. He served in India from the 2nd of December 1895 to the 16th of February 1899 earning the India Medal, 1895-1902 with 2 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98 and Tirah 1897-98. He served in Served in Mauritius from February 1899 to the 5th of October 1899 and was then posted to South Africa where he served until 10th of July 1902. Returning Home on the 11th of July 1902. He served with the Colours March 1906 when he transferred to the Reserve where he served until final demobilisation on the 20th of April 1910.
